Setting up the Buffalo G Router

After reading some posts, I decided to purchase the Buffalo G Router since my Netgear G Router is better off frying eggs than keep a stable connection after three years...

I am a novice to networking so I need step by step instructions to getting the most out of this router. DD-WRT or Tomato? The dummy's guide to setting up this router. I have not yet installed it.

JackMDS, you Buffalo lover, where are you?

Thanks!

i use ddwrt on my wrtsl54g. i read it was not for novices but its not difficult to use in the least bit. i love it. i had a wpn824 netgear and it was a horrible nightmare for 3 years as well, i thought this was actually my thread. fuck netgear routers, buffalo/linksys all the way

Tomato has an elegant, functional interface. It's a pleasure to use after the jumble of the other firmware variants. You can also get it to do whatever you want.

The download package includes a readme with detailed install instructions. You really don't need to mess with the defaults beyond setting up security.

I have a stricked polcy Not to Dance around Hardware or Firmware just because it is out there.

I do try a lot of new things but it they are not really providing something better I keep with what I am expierenced with.

So taking into considration this persepective I stayed with DD-WRT.

DD-WRT Wiki site provides good instructions for every thing concerning Buffalo and DD-WRT.

I have used the Tomato firmware and love the interface. I easily upgraded my linksys using this firmware. It has been much more stable since.
