my network is running on a lynksys wireless g (v. 2.5) router with up to date firmware installed.

i have given both computers a name, run the network wizard on both. i have specified wich folders to share. but the computers don't "see" each other in my network places. why? the computers successfully ping to each other in the command function too.

why can't they recognize eachother? :frown:

what am i doing wrong?

also, once i get the file and print sharing working properly, what is the best way to encrypt? should i use the router setting to encrypt or windows' network options? i need to encrypt because i won't like to enable the function so that i can modify files on one computer from the other.

You are mixing together two independent issues.

Wireless is a mere replacement to wire.
File and Printer Sharing is a function of Windows Network settings, it is the same if the Network?s computers are Wired, or Wireless, or any combination of the two.
If you secure your Wireless Correctly it will be protected from intruders and you do not need to encrypted LAN traffic.

If you are specially concern you can conduct your Wireless connection through VPN. however it will be very slow or you would need special hardware to do so.

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing.
