EDITED: I noticed that my subject didnt match what I was asking...so hopefully that will get some help!

Hi guys. Well see my sig for my current rig.

I am about 2 weeks away from Upgrading my mobo and Video card to the PCIe standard.
I got a DFI LanParty UT nF4 SLI-DR 939, and in two weeks Ill be getting an EVGA 7950 GX2.

However, I also got a new WD 250 GB SATA 3.0Gb/s HDD. I plan to use this as my media and files drive. My current main hard drive is a WD SATA from about 2 years ago. I believe the 1.50Gb/s SATA. I will be saving for a WD raptor RAID 0 setup in about 2 months.

Well, to begin saving all my files and getting everything ready for the main teardown, I plugged my new hard drive into the SATA2 port. Tried to boot and it seems like the mobo didnt like the new HDD. Keep in mind this is on my CURRENT mobo, an Abit AV8 3rd-Eye.

The comp got to the message that stated Windows didnt load properly last time and gives the option for safe mode, normal mode ect.

I would choose start normally, and it would go to the windows load page, but get caught there. I eventually got tired of screwing with it and unplugged the new HDD and unplugged the SATA cable to the mobo. restarted and fired up just fine!

Is that caused by a potential BIOS conflict? I think I only have 2 SATA ports on my AV8, and from what I recall, I have to have the RAID add in card on in my CMOS...or is it BIOS...? Is it possible that when both SATA ports are used, it tried to default to a RAID array?

Never really had to dick around hard to get my system going, but i fear that my current mobo is SATA 2 illiterate. I read that with SATA, you dont have to worry about setting a slave and a master like you have to do with IDE. Is this true?

I do have an external HDD that I will have access to, but my main concern is for when I switch my mobos. Should the DFI BIOS be SATA 2 compliant out of the box? If so, should I plug the storage HDD into a SATA port like 5 or 6 on the LanParty?

Thanks

your current board doesn't support SATA3.0Gb/s (VIA 8237 sb), you need to force SATA150 mode on the HDD with a jumper.
