Setting up PS3 wifi

I haven't used my PS3 for a couple years, and just tried to set up wifi.

I also set up a PS4, and process was easier and worked - just get a list of wifi signals, pick one, and it then connected to it.

The PS3 wasn't as easy. It wanted more information about the network I don't have handy, starting with a type I don't know the answer to.

If I just skip that, it tries to automatically get the info, but it doesn't reach the internet.

Do I have to go through a more tedious bit of research and find values somewhere to set it up? Or is there an easier way to do it?

If you don't know whether you're using WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc, I think it should say on the PS4's connection info.

I just checked, and if your PS4 is connected via WiFi, it will tell you what the SSID and security type is. You're probably on your own for the password, but how did you connect the PS4 if you don't have the password to your own wireless network?

It didn't ask for one. The PS3 is asking for more info.

I tried logging into the PS3 with no password and it wouldn't even try, it demanded a password if there was security.

Where do I get the login info for the router?

I dont know where did you record it when you installed the router? I wrote mine down on a piece of paper and taped it to my router when i set it up originally.

If you cant remember then i would probably do a factory reset on the router, use factory default password to log in, and then set it up like you did when it was new but this time write the info down somewhere so you dont need to ever go through this again. And dont forget to change the admin password on the router from the factory default.

Check your router. It should have a label on it with the default SSID and password. If that matches what your PS4 has connected to then, you got it.

However, you mentioned that you setup the PS4 successfully. I take it you should know the password if do did so OR worse, there is no password and your router security is open. If you are lucky it could have been WPS button security (which is often vulnerable) . Either way get a friend over who knows and help you out and possibly lock things down.
