Guys,

I'm going to be setting up an older mobo/cpu for my father. Board is Asus P3V4X Via Pro 133a w/ a PIII-550. OS will be XP Pro. Will XP Pro recognize the board and have suitable drivers for it, or will I need to install the Via 4-in-1 drivers?

Also, is it possible to convert an AT desktop case to ATX? I'd be swapping out the AT power supply for an ATX. Will also have a backplane shield for the mobo. Besides the power supply and the switch, is there something else that would prevent me from making an AT case ATX?

TIA,

Jeff

You shouldn't have any problems from the XP install on the older MB.

Your case situation is not that easy. Unless your case is setup for AT & ATX, you might as well buy another one. AT & ATX form factor MBs don't have things in the same place.

everything should be fine with XP... you might want to check viaarena's site and find out of there are any needed drivers for XP for that mobo.... if not, then just do the install. :) i commonly install XP on computers of that era, and slightly newer, and usually everything is installed without a hitch.

Guys, thanks for the replies. I'm going to guess that XP recognizes the Pro133A chipset and has built in drivers. Re the case, I pretty much expected that I'd have to go to a new case. Desktop cases are getting more difficult to find these days. I did find an Enlight 300w desktop case at both Newegg and Directron.
