Setting up newsgroups with internet sharing....

Ok, I am sharing an internet connection with my family. How do i go about using newsgroups on a shared connection? I know how to do it when I was the only computer online but now when I try to use newsgroups, i get an error that says cannot find host. I've turned off every firewall option possible to avoid blocking ports. I am not using a router, rather using HomePNA (sharing through the phoneline in the house, similar to a hub I believe). How do i do newsgroups? Is there some port I have to forward? How do i do it?
