Alright, First let me tell you what my system is... (if you look these up by the names specified, it pulls up full details perfectly..)

DFI lanparty 4 mobo ( N82E16813136152 )
AMD Athlon XP 64 3500+ ( N82E16819103514 )
2x512 of kingston ddr ram ( N82E16820141423 )
Thermaltake case ( N82E16811133105 )
Western digital 200gig 7200rpm 8mb cache HD.

Simple 425watt PSU (20pin).
I had to buy another video card that was psi-e instead of AGP..

Ok, so everything is fine and dandy, some friends of mine that are more experienced with computers then I am, as well as myself, setup the system... I get home and plug it up, turn on the PSU, everything starts to come on, the case fans, PSU, processor fan, mobo fan, the lights on the front that say "Thermaltake", the lcd that displays the temp begins working and then says "63.0F" which is probably right... After about 3 seconds, it shuts off completely... no beeps, nothing on the monitor (it doesn't reach that point)... its.. nothing. On the motherboard itself there are debugging lights. Fourth light goes out, which means the fourth object is fine, then the third one starts to go out, then blam the system shuts down, (processor not found apparently), but the processor is in there and fine, maybe I misread the manual on the debugging lights... the mobo still has power, because that one light on the mobo stays on... Does anyone else know what could be causing this problem to happen?

Thanks for any help.

sounds to me like a bad motherboard or
it could also be a bad PSU (power supply)
ie as everything turns on and uses power it might be overloading the psu and it just shuts down
try useing a different psu and see if that works
one of your frends might have an extra?

try the simple things first
they tend to be cheaper

What video card did you use in your new rig? If it uses an auxiliary power cable, make sure the cable didn't come loose. I have a 6600GT that takes one, and it doesn't take much to pull it out of the card by accident :Q

My main suspicion is also with the power supply. If it is a cheapie, then what's it doing in a quality system? Eh? ;) I would use a high-quality PSU for a decent gaming rig. If you need a nominee, the Fortron Blue Storm would be a safe bet, being from a quality maker and a 24-pin unit with lots of power.

the video card doesn't have a power cable.. I will check out the powersupply as well... thank you for your responses, I will let you know how this goes.

OK! I got the debug lights to go down to the first light, which means...

I had bought a 500wt psu, 24pin, atx, and it works now..

ok... anyways back to the debug lights... means Video card, I am thinking of just replacing it... -grumbles- I am going to frys now, but anyone else have any ideas...?
