setting up new system; no video

I got an open-box x1900GT from Newegg as part of a complete system. When I boot up, I get no video output whatsoever. My monitor just goes into standby. The card has two DVI ports, and I've tried plugging in to both to no avail. The mobo has no onboard vid and I own no other PCIe vid cards, so I can't really test much. Is it safe to assume that the issue is with the open-box vid card?

A couple points:
* The power LEDs on the card are lit, and the fan spins
* My mobo has an extra 4-pin power connector next to the PCIe slot which is explained as being extra power for the video, if necessary. As I have no documentation on the card, I don't know if this is necessary, but I don't want to just go plugging things in to power if I shouldn't be. I don't want to make the problem worse than it is.

Any thoughts?

My friend just had this same issue with his vid card also not powering on because he failed to connect the 4 pin power connector on the motherboard. That 1900 may also have a power connector on the card itself.

his card was only a pci-e x800 i can only assume the 1900 which draws more power would require the 4 pin connection.

The card has its own 6-pin connection, which is plugged in.

Can anyone confirm that I won't blow anything up by plugging this thing in if it is not necessary?

Well, I've plugged in the extra rail and I'm still getting no output from the VC. The fan spins though.

Another thing of note: my mobo is supposed to beep out some codes when it posts referring to status. One beep for OK, more for certain problems. I am not getting any beeping at all, though. Maybe this is a motherboard issue?
