setting up networking in DOS from scratch

I need to install a NIC and set up networking on a DOS 6.22 machine.
I've got realtek, intel, and 3com NICs here.
What route would you guys suggest to take? I have googled quite a bit and have found all sorts of handy stuff, but nothing to bring it together.

A BART's network bootdisk and an older copy of PC Anywhere
should get you just what you need (not sure, but I believe
PC Anywhere 8 has a DOS host available)

this will be a permanent installation. You'd pull whatever drivers off bart's disk, and then configure it? The permanent configuration is what had me going. I have never messed with TCP/IP in DOS.
We have good luck using pcanywhere 7.5, and a friend made a roll-your-own trunctuated version that runs in XP as a client.
