Setting up my video card

I recently bought an ATI 9600xt, and i need some help getting the settings just right. I messed with it before and got it good on counter-strike, but whenever i played Day of defeat i get 13 fps constant. i dont know whats wrong.

hello pp, and welcome

have you got all the latest drivers installed properly? old ones removed first? One thing that screwed me up for a while once was installing the proper chipset drivers for my mobo, the card was not recognized as agp until I did that and it made a huge difference. More details on your setup would be great

well since i bought it like 3 weeks ago, and it was my first ati card i just uninstalled the old nvidia drivers i had and installed the catylist cd. my system specs are as follows ( i dont know much of them) 1.5 gig p4, 256mb ram, 4x agp mobo, thats all i know 🙁

where did you get your computer? on my old machine (a Dell) I am able to change video cards, reinstall windows, do whatever... and the cards work like they're supposed to. On my new machine (with an asus p4p800dx mobo) I have to install the intel chipset drivers to get things to work. Is yours from a big manufacturer like Gateway/Dell or did someone put it together for you?

at any rate, for some more diagnostic information try sandra. This will tell you many useful things although I find you have to do a fair bit of looking to find out specifics about the agp bus. Also try aquamark and tell us your overall frame rate. That way we can make a real appraisal of the performance you're getting.

again, it's hard to help without more details but I hope some more knowledgeable than I can give you some suggestions. don't be afraid to bump or add more questions if you're not getting a response, someone will know how to help

ps. I'm not familiar with Day of Defeat. Is that a fairly new game? How demanding is it relative to other recent titles?

What you should do is download Driver Cleaner to completly remove the old nVidia drivers and your current ATI drivers. Then download the latest Catalyst driver version off of ATI's website which will definately support XT processors. I think the drivers on your CD might be old, I have had a lot that come with Catalyst 3.4, which don't support XT overclocking functions.
