Setting up my router as a bridge to an outside network?

This may seem to most as unethical but I can basically access an outside unsecured router that is linked to an internet connected modem. The only thing I know about it, is that it is a "Linksys BEFW11S4 V4." This connection has been live for a VERY long time and the connection is always stable, I highly doubt they even use their internet.

It's my girlfriends house and she really wants to be able to play Xbox Live. She doesn't currently have a router because Verizon is hassling her for something that has to do with the modem and she's just going without her own internet especially since she connects to this other router free, which is perfectly legal.

Her computer connects to it wirelessly through Linksys's 802.11G adapter, but her Xbox 360 has Microsofts Wireless Adapter and it can't hold a connection to save its life even though it finds this outside router.

She DOES, however, have a Linksys WRT54GL router which I freshly installed DD-WRT v24 firmware. I tried tinkering with the settings but I can't seem to accomplish much.

I figured that if I can get this router she owns to bridge to the outside router, I can just hard wire the computer and xbox 360 to it (only because the xbox adapter is garbage and the Linksys router she owns is pretty reputable).

I used google for many different search terms but most tutorials show how to WIRE the two routers which is obviously not an option here. I found a link to this forum that uses another firmware (sveasoft) but it was pretty outdated

Should I just follow this thread or can I do something better?

Thank you very much for any help!!

Edit: So I tinkered a bit more and discovered setting the local router to "Client" mode, changing the local address to a.b.c.2 instead of 1 since that's the local Ip of the remote router and then continued to enter the SSID of the router we're trying to access. I also changed the DHCP to start assigning addresses at a much higher number (140) to prevent any IP conflicts between the routers. I'm sure I need some sort of adjustments to Gateway and Subnet mask right?

I tried following the above linked tutorial but it wasn't quite working...

I keep resetting my router and starting over but something's not right. I just want the router to connect to the remote router so I can hard wire my side into it and have the wireless bridge. If I'm making it harder than it is just let me know...

thanks...
