I'm thinking of converting one of my home computers to a email/file server. A machine that would download mail of my @home account, archive it and allow users on my home network to download it off my mail server, as well as files and etc. I was wondering how and what i need to do this? And what kind of specs should i have for this? I'm planning to use the computer in my sig (the one i'm on now). ALso, it wouldn't be just 100% server. It'll probably be doing some basic internet and word processing as well. Any input would be appreciated!

pick up MS exchange 5.5 or exchange 2000. that way you can set up all kinds of cool stuff like exchange web access!

your welcome.

exchange 5.5 has an easier setup than 2000, which is why i mentioned both. you should be able to set up a mail server that checks your mail, and then like i said you can configure outlook on all your machines to contact the mail server or you can use the web access feature to remotely check your e-mail from any computer with a web browser in the world.

your mail server will obviously have to have it's own IP though. also, you're machine specs look fine for a server. i do so hope you'd run windows 2000 correct?
