Setting up ICS with laptop and desktop

So I have this laptop with a verizon broadband card so i can connect to the internet from pretty much anywhere in their service area. My desktop currently has no internet connection because Cox working on their equipment. Is there a really simple way to share my laptops connection with my desktop?

I've tried setting up windows ICS but the connection setup ALWAYS freezes the laptop. The laptop is currently part of a domain, but i've tried putting it into the desktops Workgroup, still no luck. Is there 3rd party software that can do this? Both the laptop and the desktop can be connected to a soho router via their NIC's.

Any help would be great.

You need a crossover cable between them, no router is necessary. I'm not sure why ICS is freezing your laptop.

Using the router purely for switching capability, I couldnt find a crossover cable. However I did try a normal straight through between them which seemed to work (they could see each other) but setting up the ICS and actually getting internet connection on the desktop failed..

Also, I dont see why it isnt working since they are both in the same subnet (laptop is 192.168.1.120, desktop is 192.168.1.133). They dont have to be in the same workgroup, do they?
Also, for some reason I can ping the desktop from the laptop, but i cant ping the laptop from the desktop. I dont get it..
