Setting up ICS can't be this harrd

I'm setting up ICS on my girlfriends computers and everything works except that I can't get any clients to browse the internet. The host system browses okay, and all the computers can see eachother on the network.

When I let the ICS wizard setup the host system, it gives the internal network NIC an IP of 192.168.0.1.
and the subnet is 255.255.255.0, which is all normal for any internet sharing I have worked with.

If I follow one part of microsofts instructions, and use the client setup disk that the ICS wizard makes, they say that I am supposed to have the clients obtain their own IP address, and leave the DNS servers and gateways blank. When I do this, the computers obtain what appears to be a valid Shaw IP, but they cannot browse the internet, and they cannot ping anything but their own IP addy. They can still browse the internal network.

If I manually assign the IP addresses, (192.168.0.2)etc, the clients can now ping the host computer, but still cannot browse the internet. I have set the DNS server and gateway to 192.168.0.1. The proxy server that the client setup puts in is proxy:8080. This does not work, and if I change the proxy to 192.168.0.1:8080, it still does not work.

I must be doing something wrong. Does anybody know of any sites that do a step by step setup for this, or know if I am making some dumb mistake? (something I'm very prone to do) ;)

Thanks

ICS is not a proxy server. Don't use a proxy server. I believe ICS is simply a form of Network Address Translation, which is totally different than a proxy solution. Try removing the proxy settings and seeing if that works. If that still doesn't work, try setting the DNS server on the clients to your ISP's DNS servers. Good luck;)

Ditch the Proxy server it is not needed for an ICS connection...

Thanks guys. Looks like it was a corrupt installation. I reinstalled ICS on the host system and everythig worked fine.
