I'm setting up my home network and would like to get some ideas, imput. I was going to go with a switch and sharing software but after a little more reading have decided on the following.

1 - SMC7004BR router
2 - Netgear FA311 NIC's
Cat5 cable

I've got a Surfboard SB3100 cable modem that will connect to the router then connect to the computers. I have a third computer that has a Cnet pro 200 (I think that's the #) NIC.

It's my understanding that this should work without any software or additional hardware. Does it seem like a good way to go?

Help me out guys, I'm new to networking.

The SMC is a good one. Check out the top 20 threads or so for some more info on network cards and home networking in general.

Yep, that's a good setup to go... the hardware router will provide you with a firewall also for added security...
