Setting up Exchange 2003 - outside mail will not work

Just set up a new Domain Controller which is also the exchange server ( I know I know, bad practice, but this is what they wanted )

Everything works fine inside email, however outside email cannot get back in.

There domain is called xy.com

The hosted domain that they had previously popped into was xyz.com

What I'm thinking needs to be done is I need to go to the virtual SMTP connectors, and point them towards an external DNS and then I need to create a new DNZ zone of xyz.com and create both an A Record pointing to the exchange server and an mx record pointing there as well.

What else am I missing? Please help a terminal server guy out!

Thanks!

Check your Internal Firewall settings. It could need a rule to allow incoming mail to past to the exchange server and out to internal network users.
