Setting up DSL connection?

Hello All,
I hope this is the right place for this question.
Loaded a friend's computer with WIN XP Pro at my house using my router to connect to the internet, worked great.
He then took the computer and connected to Verision DSL. But can't access the internet. He tried his laptop and it worked after he went thru the Internet Connection Wizard.
He tried the same on the desktop computer but it wants to use a dial-up connection, not the DSL. (the desktop has built-in 3COM LAN and a 56k modem. So does the laptop)
I have been trying to help him over the phone, Verision told him that the drivers for the 3COM are no good, I had him check the Device Manager and all seems fine.
Could anyone help us here?
TIA

Have him start the internet connection wizard & choose "Setup my connection manually" -> "connect using broadband that requires password & username" ->enter the necessary info. & you should be fine.

Right now, the computer is not setup to use the dsl settings since you connected it to the internet through your router.
