Setting up an FTP Server for the first time...

Setting up FTP server for first time behind my Linksys Firewall. I've disabled DHCP under the DHCP tab in my Linksys Router Config Setup, and I've forwarded the port to 192.168.1.100. I've setup a test "admin" user with full rights in the ServU setup but I can't connect to the FTP from a remote location.

My question is, how does the Port Forwarding work in the Linksys Router Configuration? Do I need to setup another IP to forward?

Any suggestions/recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Wow 10 mins between post and bump that's pretty impatient.

What error(s) do you get when you try to connect? Does the FireWall show that someone/something tried to hit your ftp port? Does the servu console show any hit?

no errors. just sits there trying to connect...I was trying to isolate the issue to configuration of the Linksys Router (port forwarding) or something else...

check the system you want forwarded to and make sure it has the static ip 192.168.1.100
also, make sure you setup your linksys router to have all static as well rather than dynamic if you're going to keep that specific ip port forwarded to your ftp.

ahh so whatever IP i select for Port Forwarding has to be setup for a static ip...so let's say that my @home main machine has an ip address of 24.X.XX.XX and this is the machine that I want the ip address forwarded it to...i would setup the Port Forwarding to that IP address and then setup the Router for a static IP (i think i have it setup as DHCP right now) then setup my Network TCP/IP properties for that static IP...

does that sound correct or am i missing something?

Plug the @home modem into the WAN port of router and set it up the same as if it was on your computer (static or DHCP). Then give your computer the static ip of 192.168.1.100. Then on the linksys router enable port forwarding on ports 21 and 20 to 192.168.1.100. Also, don't forget to set the gateway on your machine to the internal ip of the linksys router (192.168.1.1 or something like that).
