Setting up an External RAID 1 (Mirroring)?

No way USB as the drive has to be on the same controller as the internal drive. external SATA or eSATA will have to be it. Or if the one drive you have is PATA, then a mobile rack for another PATA drive. RAID 1 is not for backup, RAID 1 is for high uptime. Use a good program like Novaback for a reliable backup plan. A USB or FireWire external drive would be fine for that.
