Setting up a Wireless router in residence?

Hey guys. I'm moving into residence next year and some parts of the university campus don't have wireless yet.

I'm thinking of getting a router, setting it to access point mode, and putting a 12 dBi antenna on it, and plugging my computer into an ethernet port. Then my palm pilot can use wireless on the campus near my dorm. (it's a relatively small campus)

Do you see any problems with this setup? I've never tried it before.

What is a good router with a high transmission power?
