Setting up a wireless network in WinXP SP2

Hey yall,

I'm having an issue I can't seem to resolve in setting up a wired/wireless network with WinXP SP2. I am sharing a DSL connection connected to a Netgear router. My desktop is connected to the router using a wired connection. I have a laptop with built in wireless which is using my same Netgear router to get online. Both machines use XP SP2.

I have ran both the network setup wizard and the wireless network setup wizard and I can't get the two to share files or get the laptop to share the desktop's printer. I have been able to at times see the laptop in my network neighborhood, but when I attempt to access it, it tells me I dont have the permission. I can also ping my desktop from my lappy, but not the other way around. I made sure both are on the same workgroup and enabled printer/file sharing on both. I've checked just about every help file in windows but they dont help much with actual troubleshooting.

Is there something I am doing wrong or a guide somewhere that I can be pointed to? I can't seem to get this to work!

thanks in advance!
