Setting up a Website

I learned that my computer at school has a permanent IP address, and I getting to thinking that perhaps I could set up my own server to host a website. Does anyone know what I need to do to get it all working?

I was going to install a distro of Linux and Apache, but I'm not sure how to register the IP address to a specific name. If anyone knows, please reply.

if you've got a website... then where you registered the domain you enter in nameservers from your dns... a good free dns service is zoneedit.com

@ zoneedit you enter in your ip address of your server...

it's pretty easy... if you need any more help just pm me...
