Setting up a VPN

I have a sever that is colocated in Texas. It is currently running Windows Server 2012 and I have set up a VPN using routing and remote access. At least I hope so...(its been a while since I have worked with VPNs)

The reason I am doing this, is to allow a friend visiting China access the internet through it. Will this work? Is there any other special configuration that I need to add? Also, short of going there how can I test it to make sure it is functioning?

The Great Firewall of China has a tendency to drop connections it cannot spy on - like an encrypted vpn connection would be one such example.

I had a similar situation in my thread here

In fact, I'm still in China right now. I'm posting using an SSH tunnel back to my home router. It works great aside from the fact that I'm limited by the upload speed of my home connection. And, of course, the speed of the connection I use here.

I had a lot more issues trying to get the VPN to work consistently. Both on the server I have set up at home and the one I'm subscribed to.

I don't have experience with Windows Server 2012 but I would do what I did and set up both the VPN and SSH tunnel so your friend has options.
