Setting up a video surveillance system - good program?

Hi all!
I'm looking to set up a simple surveillance system. I have a PC, a video camera, a web cam, and an iPhone with the iRa surveillance application. What are my options?
I was thinking maybe to set up a web cam on the PC, and have it stream live to my iPhone. Is this very difficult to do? Are there an tutorials on how to do this, or something like it?
Thanks in advance!

Well I set a simple one up, using EyeSpyFX and their iphone app. The only drawback is that there is a lot of lag and it's more like a series of photos than a web stream. 1 frame every few seconds.
I tried several of the other options here:

But couldn't get them to work with my iphone. I have to run now, but will try to put a review of my experiences later to help others looking for a simple surveillance system.
Thanks!

BTW, just looking for a simple setup to watch the kids in the other room, make sure they are ok.

I'd recommend BlueIris. I set it up at a client's location, and we had 14 VGA Zonet IP Cameras running with it, and it ran pretty well. It did need a quadcore CPU to handle motion detection for that many cameras, but for a single camera you should be fine. It's not free unfortunately.
