Setting up a TV/movie/computer system

I'd like to set up a system with one fairly large, nice monitor (say 24") to use as my main computer screen and also to watch movies and TV (maybe cable in the future...)

I have or will build an amp and speakers for sound; that doesn't matter. However, how does one watch cable TV over a computer display? Tuner card? Display with tuner built in?

Is there a tried-and-true, cheap way of doing this?

Thanks!

depends if you consider basic cable as cable 🙂
if you just use the cable line (without a cable box and ir) and plug it into a tuner card you will have just basic cable

that would be the cheapest route
all you would need to get is a tuner card

get a decent tuner card like a Theater 550 pro or the newer 650 pro. Sometimes a remote is included.

I use the Sapphire one myself.
