setting up a server for the first time...

my last boss and friend wants me to set up a server for him sometime this month to host the website for the bar he manages, his tree-planting company, and a couple of other things as well. i have never actually set up a server, and i was wondering if you guys could point me to some how-to's or something like that. any help would be greatly apreciated! thanks
