Setting up a RAID1 and using another SATA drive alone

Hey guys,

I have a MSI K8T Neo FIS2R motherboard. It has 2 sata controllers: a VIA southbridge controller and a Promise controller. Both have 2 sata150 connections (so 4 total).

I currently have a 74gig (sata150) Raptor, and I am purchasing 2 sata300 500g drives to put in a RAID1. So I have 2 questions:

1. I'm assuming the 500gb sata300 drives will come with jumpers to reduce them to 150 speed... is this a safe assumption?

2. Can I put the 500gb RAID1 setup on one controller and the lone Raptor on the other controller?
2a -- If yes, which would be better to run the RAID1 on, VIA or Promise?

Thanks,
Brian

Yes, you can do RAID on one controller and have the Raptor on the other controller. I would use the Promise controller.
