my system specs:

1.6Ghz Pentium IV (Williamette)@ 1.947Ghz @ 1.85volts
Microstar sis645 ultra w/ sis 1.09f agp drivers
corsair ddr333 256 mb @ cas2 ultra timings @ 3:4 ratio (324mhz)
Gainward Geforce 3 ti200 @ 240/540 det 23.11
sb live!
seagate barracuda IV 40gb 7200 rpm hd
winxp professional

I just got it up and got a 7750 in 3d mark 2k1, i was wondering if that is supposed to be about the right score? I was at least hoping for 8200, since this new setup only beats my athlon 1400 mhz w/sdram by only 900 points. What could be the little slowdown in this setup? Also, is it ok to run it my cpu at 1.85 volts when my coolermaster cpu fan keeps it always below 45 Celcius, (i think the temp sensor on my mobo may be buggy as it is unbelievable that it is usually 40 celcius, even though i touch the fan heatsink and it feels really cool). Thanks for your help.

So is this the replacement for the ECS setup you had?? Just a little bit of history here, the AMD cpu's run better/faster than the corresponding Intel cpu's. Hotter yes, but also faster. So, if your Intel unit @ 1.947Ghz is running just slightly ahead of your "old" AMD 1.4, that could very well be about the best you can expect. I'm sure some that are more familiar with the P4's will chime in here and correct me if I'm wrong. ;) However, I don't think you will get much more of a difference. I am curious though, how did you get the voltage to 1.85? Did you use the wire trick?? I understand there is no way to do that unless you do some sort of modification. Also, you should be aware that the cpu temp readouts are bogus. The chipset has an inherent flaw that renders this useless. Sorry. See, now aren't you sorry you abandoned the AMD ship? :D JK!

I have it set to 1.85volts, but the hardware bios watch says it is around 1.8volts. Really, the readouts are totally bogus, weird cause my cpu heatsink does feel like 40 celcius cause the fan keeps blowing cool air in that i only feel cool. I admit that the p4 setup isn't that faster than my old athlon on a kt-133, but i got it at it pretty good deal and this mobo has a good upgrade factor for future northwoods. BTW, what is the wire mod? Thanks.

The vid pin wire mod is basically wrapping a wire around two pins on the cpu so that they are "shorted" this enables the ability to properly adjust the voltages. Remember, as with any "non-standard" modifications, use at your own discretion and YMMV. If you want more info and additional info on the voltage and temp issues with this board, go to the OC Workbench MSI Forum.

I think your score seems about right. 900 points is more than a 10% improvement. Also are you sure you had all of the graphics card setiings the same in both systems ?

To get up around 8200 with your graphics card I'd say you would need a Northwood P4 1.6a overclocked to 2.1. The extra FSB speed of the Northwood and your Athlon are a big factor in 3D Mark scores.
