Its time to upgrade the LAN im giving my wireless router to my GF so i can go over there and get WIFI, so heres what i need I need, a new router one that supports 2 IPs one that will go directly to my server and one to go to the rest of the Lan, i think i need an 8 port because I have and Xbox, Business PC, HTPC, Vonage, and im going to add 2-802.11g APs for my Laptop. So what do you guys suggest, im still up in the air about how i will link my Xbox, Bizpc, and HTPC i may go wireless, depends on if i can hide the wires well enough, so the bottom line is i need a router that will take 2 ips or a Wireless router that will take 2 IPs.

Yes, those 2 are WAN ip's. What are u serving? To really do it in the best, secure manner you want something that will allow a true DMZ (seperate subnet from WAN and LAN) to host the server so if it . Whats your budget?

The typical SOHO router won't handle two IP addresses from the WAN side. Probably the easiest (and cheapest) way to get this going is use an old machine running Linux as your router.

if you get two ips form your provider, why cant you stick a hub behind the (dsl or cable) modem and stick into that, yoru server, and then yoru router behind which can be everything else?

Just get yourself an SMC 7004fw. Can have up to 10 WAN IP's and can be had fro around $100 or so.

to protect your server, you jsut need a (hardware/software)firewall, not a whole router.

I'm sure some guys have advice on what is the best equipment.

me i am using a linksys router mysefl and various random hubs and switches. I don't think there is too much difference in hubs, maybe some in switches.

I am sure someone will come up wiuht a better opinion on the equip than I can.
