Setting up a network accross the net...?

Is there any way for me to set up a network from my computer to a friends computer w/Win98? We want to be able to transfer/gaming/sharing w/our computers. Is this possible without major security leaks? How would it be done?

If you guys are not in the same house then there is not an easy way to do this without having a Server in between handling the connection. Windows9x does not have this capability alone. You might want to look into programs such as Laplink or PcAnywhere for File Transfer / remote controling via Dial up and most games should be able to have an option for dialup if not then internet would be the medium you need to go through to play together.

If you want to get into plain direct connection you need a server you could dial up into and then become a part of each others network as if you were physically there.
