I need some help setting up a Netgear MR814 802.11b 4 port router with a PC and an XBOX with the DSL company is CenturyTel. This is for my cousin in Missouri and I won't actually be there, so I have to tell him over the phone. I have a similar setup at work in New York with a Linksys 802.11b 4 port router, but with one PC and Verizon DSL.

I did my setup at work by going to the Linksys router settings by typing in 192.168.1.1. Then I went to the setup menu and changed the WAN Connection Type to PPPoE and typed in my Verizon DSL username and password. And that was it. I didn't have to install WinPOET and I don't have to log on every time I want to use my DSL connection, just like with my Optimum Online cable connection at home.

How would I do this for my cousin's PC? He has WinPOET installed on his PC, but we have to remove that. What else should I do to configure his router. I've only dealt with Linksys routers and don't have experience with Netgear routers.

Thanks for your help.

If he has an ID and Password. It should be entered into the the Router and thats it.

The menu might look different on his Router but it is the same principle as yours.

Otherwise: Link to: DSL PPPOE and Cable/DSL Routers.
