Setting up a Fixed Point Wireless ISP

Alright, there is a big demand around this rural area for broadband internet access. Well my family has a big farm with 4 big silos and I have been researching what would be needed to set up a wireless access point with an antenna on the silo.

Problem: where do you get a high speed internet connection? Cable, DSL isn't available out here. Are T1's available anywhere? This backbone has to connect to the internet somehow although many of my friends would probably pay $50/month just for a high speed gaming network... lol

Call the phone company and see what type of access you can get (T1, ISDN, frame relay, etc.). Then go from there.

This wouldn't work for gaming on the internet (due to lag issues) but you could set up a satellite reciever up with the wireless access point and that way eveyone on the local network could play games, but you'd also have a moderately high speed internet connection for all of them.

I think they range from 400k to 1Mb download speeds, the upload can be sluggish though. The good thing about satellite though is that it's relatively inexpensive and you can get it just about anywhere.

ok, get a T1 line, get a couple of wireless access points, some cisco routers, and some high gain antennas, and make an antenna array. you can sell bandwith to your neighbors.
