This is the thing.

Currently running an all XP Pro workgroup with 3 computers.

looking at the possibility of making file serv/ internet gateway a domain controller to boot in order to unify user accounts and access.

is this possible without going to an actual server OS?

if yes, where do I find the resources?

WinXP Pro is not a server OS.

As the man above said, you need Win2000 server.

Or if you want to ?Return into the Future?.

Get the beta version of Windows2003 Server.

The Software is free but you pay Airborne shipping ($19.95).

It is a big package includes: Windows 2003 Server, Office XP 2003RC , Exchange Server 2003, Share point Server, and more goodies.

This software is valid through Nov 30 2003. Gives you a lot of time to practice and make up your mind.

Microsoft Link to the above.
