My parents just both got iphones through Verizon. Dad wants me to come by in the morning to set them up.

What all needs to be done? I know they will need iTunes for future updates, etc. but is it needed to get the phone working? Do I just need to call Verizon?

Also, since they each have one, is it better to install iTunes on 2 separate pc's (his desktop and her laptop)? Or does it matter?

Anything else I need to know?

Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to save some time/aggravation in the morning.

I've heard that it will change in the next iOS5 version of the iPhone but right now you need iTunes for set up and future updates.

When you first get an iPhone and turn it on for the first time, it will have message about plugging it into iTunes. You do not need two computers - you can use the same iTunes for both. You shouldn't need to call Verizon... iTunes should take care of everything.

Set up the first one and then when you plug in the second, it will say something like "do you want to set this phone up like [name of other phone]" or "do you want to set it up as a new phone". Choose the new phone for the second phone. There's no real reason to need to use two separate computers - iTunes can keep track of them without an issue. It will keep the backups and playlists and everything separate.

With the new iOS5 release, I think they are moving all this stuff to the cloud... but I guess we'll see.

Ok, it's done.

I do have a few issues though.

First I set up my Dads. Created an Apple ID and updated his phone, etc. Set it up to sync with his outlook.

Then I did my moms. created a new Apple Id and made certain to tell itunes or whatever that it's a new phone. Then I ran into my first issue. She doesn't use outlook on that PC, she uses it on her laptop. So, I unchecked all the "sync" options for Outlook, etc.
Not a big deal (more on that later). Her phone didn't need an update so it took alot less time. Got it activated and up and running.
Then I was on her phone showing my dad the App Store. It automatically had his Apple ID on her phone. Can this be changed? Does it matter? I'd rather keep them separate.

As far as her email goes, since I don't have it set up to sync to outlook, i can still manually configure it, right? What's the disadvantage of doing it this way? i know the outlook contacts, etc. won't sync over but she doesn't really care (nor does she even have contacts).
