As message title. I just can't figure out where ping (and other network related commands) obtain the FQDN for a host from . I've set the domain in /etc/resolv.conf to the proper one but it just doesn't work.
Create a file called /etc/defaultdomain and put it in the domain name you want to use for resolution. Just a single line, just like /etc/defaultrouter. Should do the trick.
Yeah, and I have no idea which.. I usually just init 6 the box when I've made the change. Grep for defaultdomain in /etc/rc2.d and see what daemon calls it and how and you might be able to figure it out if you can't easily reboot it.
Note that I am _NOT_ a good Solaris sysadmin - Just a very dangerous user, or very bad sysadmin.
