hey all, i was playing the Star Wars Galaxies Beta and it chugs a lot..so right after the program crashed out I got this notion to up my pagefile size. Well, I have 512MB ram and it was at 768MB min and max so I figured I would up it to 1024 min and max. Right when I press OK to save the change it goes to a memory dump screen. I find this behavior to be abnormal, so figured I would ask you guys:p BTW, im running Win2k3 Server RC2

Yep, that would be abnormal. You might want to pass that one on to M$. Without going on a major technet hunt I'm guessing that's some problem with RC2.

what was the STOP code?

check your system event log for a message "the system is recovering from a bugcheck" and give me the hex numbers.

A STOP 0x24 is an unhandled exception in the ntfs filesystem driver.

The NTFS filesystem driver is *very* mature, and the liklihood that you've found a bug in ntfs is VERY low. More likely, you've got a filesystem filter driver installed (antivirus? quota management? open file backup agent?) that didn't handle something correctly and caused NTFS to choke on its excrement.

The fact your problem cleared up after a defrag might mean you have a couple bad sectors. You might wanna run a surface scan some night.

Usually a new OS means new anti-virus and new CD copying software since they hook into the file system at a really low level....but they will either work fine or not at all usually.
