Setting P5B BIOS correctly?

i have a:

e6400
Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800
P5b (vanilla)

so in bios, i noticed DRAM is set at 133, but can go from 100-400, should i change that, should it be higher?

i messed with it, set it higher and the e6400 went from 2.1 to 2.8, so that DRAM FSB is the FSB that most people use to overclock?

where can i, in bios, make sure that my memory DDR2-800 is running at the right speed in conjunction with the 2.1GHZ cpu?

i heard people talk of 1:1 ratio, is that just for OCing?

I have the same basic system as Mudokon does, and am new to overclocking this, and have the same basic questions.

It would be nice, if someone on here with the same or similar configuration, and more experience, could help us out!

Asus AI software in the manual, tells you nothing about how to use it, and from what I've read on various forums, is useless.

Ok the thing you are adjusting under 100-400 values is the fsb. Under that should be DRAM setting that you can adjust. In order to adjust your memory you must go to the chipset option under the jumper free config and then Disable or Enable the Set mem by SPD option.

Also to run a 1:1 ration with the cpu you need to set your memory to ddr2 533 or leave it on auto.

Hope i helped

You also need to update to the latest bios, which I believe changes the max FSB setting from 400 to 600

Because when you overclock, you RAM's speed goes up, also. You'll want to start with it low, so it can be higher, once you've overclocked.

edit: And if you aren't planning on overclocking, the correct way to set up any[/b] BIOS is to leave everything on "Auto".

yes bios is updated

Because DDR2-533 is the 2:1 memory divider FSB266x2=DDR2-533. This setting will allow you to overclock your FSB up to 400mhz and still keep you ram within the rated speed FSB400x2=DDR2-800.

If you leave it at DDR2-800 3:1 setting as you raise the FSB bus you will be overclocking the ram well above rated speed. IE.. FSB350x3=DDR2-1050 which is way past what your ram can handle, you would be lucky to hit 300FSB with the DDR2-800 setting

So I'm confused, I should go into the bios, and set the memory to auto, instead of it being set to manual 800mhz?

So if that's the case, why not just use the Asus Ai Booster(overclocking software that comes with the board) to start with?

Until I get brave enough to do the settings on my own.
