Setting LCD screen size in a game?

I know for desktop use it's best to set your lcd screen size to it's native res. I have an 17 Samsung Syncmaster with a recommended screen size of 1280x 1024. Do I need to set it at 1280x 1024 in my games? I usually play at 1024x768

I would guess yes. Native resolution is what you should be using for everything.

Use whatever resolution you want. It will probably look best at its native resolution, but some LCDs scale really well.
