setting internet preferences in mandrake

I use mandrake and I was curious how I can set it so that it connects via my wireless internet? Everytime it says that i'm disconnected it's because it tries to connect via the ethernet. I set it in the control center as wlan (in manage connections) but it doesn't seem to stick. Any questions?
Thanks so much,
Stephen

its an aopen...i'm not sure of the chipset but it is one of the options under manage connections and it seems to be connecting to my router.

Make sure the wireless card is recognized. Find out the chipset.

Double check the configurations (they'lll be in /etc somehwere).
