Setting Internet Bandwidth Limits On LAN Computers

I'm wondering how I can set Internet bandwidth limits on different computers in my LAN.

Basically I have computerA downloading files, which currently will do so using 100% of my bandwidth. Then if I try to play a online game on computerB, the game lags due to computerA still using almost 100% of my bandwidth.

My internet connection is 15Mbps, which is 1.875MB/s of bandwidth sort o speak, and I actually do get that speed all the time.

So what options are out there to set a bandwidth cap on one or more of my computers, or applications? For example I'd like to set it so that computerA can only download and use 1.4MB/s of bandwidth, so that I can run a game without lag on another computer.

I'm using a this D-Link DIR-655 Router:

two approaches: limit at the clients or limit at the source

clients: install netlimiter or some other bandwidth limiting app and set a value that you feel is appropriate

source: use a router like the one you pointed to to limit at the source. depending on it's capabilities, it will allow you to create rules based on the ports that these apps use, and or the logical(IP address) and physical addresses(MAC address) of the clients. This is usually a lot cleaner, easier, and effective. The limitations are usually setup like this:

-You tell it what your connection's maximum upload and download speed are (usually tell it about 10-20% less than your max real life speed)
- you assign a weight /priority to specific types of traffic
-profit
