Setting IE limits in XP

I'm setting up my daughter's laptop (...again... 🙄 ) and I want to be able to see the website history. I've not been able to find a way to stop deleting site history off her limited account...

Is there a way to lock out history delete, or is there a way to view site history (as an admin) wether she deletes it or not?

Well... I'm not a big fan of WinLive, in fact, I don't have it installed. Hopefully there is a better solution with XP controls already, but we'll see.

Click Start>Run> type in "gpedit.msc">click "OK".

In the "Group Policy" dialog box click "User Configuration">"Administrative Templates">"Internet Explorer".

Click on the "Internet Control Panel" folder to open it.

In the right-hand pane double-click on "Disable the General Page".

In the "Disable the General page Properties" dialog box, select "Enabled">click "OK".

Close the "Group Policy" dialog box.

She will no longer have access to these selections:

Removes the General tab from the interface in the Internet Options dialog box.

If you enable this policy, users are unable to see and change settings for the home page, the cache, history, Web page appearance, and accessibility.

If you disable this policy or do not configure it, users can see and change these settings.

When you set this policy, you do not need to set the following Internet Explorer policies (located in \User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\), because this policy removes the General tab from the interface:

"Disable changing home page settings"

"Disable changing Temporary Internet files settings"

"Disable changing history settings"

"Disable changing color settings"

"Disable changing link color settings"

"Disable changing font settings"

"Disable changing language settings"

"Disable changing accessibility settings"
Simply change this setting back to "Not Configured" when you want to view History.

If this is Windows XP Home version you'll have to log on as Administrator, in Safe Mode. But first, open "User Accounts" and uncheck "Use the Welcome screen". Now when you boot into Safe Mode you'll have the option to sign-in as Adminstrator.

Edit!!

bruceb is right! (see his post below)...my bad. What I posted above is correct for accessing the Administrator account in XP Home.

Here's an easy solution for adding "gpedit.msc": XP Home - Adding gpedit.msc

Wellll.... it's sort of working.

I was able to finally get it downloaded, neither instructions were exactly correct but I was able to muck through it and get it so I can open the Group Policy folder from the command line. No 'Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit' program appears in my program folder, and I think that's where I need to be. It doesn't appear Microsoft is supporting the software for this any longer... I can't find it anywhere. 😳
