Howdy,

Have a Kenwood 72X CDRom and Plextor 16X10X40 CDRW. I was wondering if it makes sense to reduce the read speed from max when trying to do a CD->CDR copy? I can't seem to get a copy made of a CD. It'll hit 40% then it tanks i.e. just keeps spinning and nothing happens.

Ideas?

That is a softweare problem usually. Use the cache to HDD method, however that is called in your software. What is happening is that your other CD player is not keeping up with the burner. Ooops . . . just noticed you have a Kenwood 72X . . . that could well be the problem. They are a breed unto themselves, and not without their own peculiar problems.

I would use WMP or WinAmp to record all the music CD to WMA or WAV files in a HDD cache . . . then burn an audio CD from there.

corky-g is right on about caching first....what software do you use to burn? i suggest nero (works great with plextor burners )

you can basically write an image to your hard drive first, then burn the cd from that image...should eliminate your problems. plus, shouldn't your plextor 16x have "burn proof"?

does your software give you an error during the burn?

also, on some cd-roms, you can slow them down from peak read speed in increments by pressing the play button consecutively...not sure if it works for kenwoods though....there's also software out there that can reduce cd-roms speeds on-the-fly

Yup, using the latest version of Nero. Had problems with Roxio.

No errors... just does nothing or locks up, so I have to reboot.
