Case:
2x DVR system
5 Static IP - using only one because of router limitation
Access to DVR was done by typing IP address to Browser. 2nd DVR was accessible by typing IP address and :80 at the end.

One day the 2nd DVR stopped responding and I was called.

Proposed Solution:

I googled :80 and didn't find too many helpful info. Also because we have a server I think using our 5 s-IP addresses and assigning them to each DVR would be a good idea.

I've bought a switch and connected a DSL modem to the switch and pulled another line from the switch to WAN on the router. and connected other workstations to the switch.

The router (WRT54GS) has problem with default gateway. If I put in default gateway provided by ISP, internet doesn't work. I have to put in one of the IP as the default gateway and it is accessible.

I'm trying to find a right manual to setup a static IP network and how to assigning them to each workstation. because we have about 15 workstations, only DVR(2) and a server will get a static IP and rest would be DHCP assigned by the router.

I am not familiar with your specific thingies but if the listening port of a device/application can be changed they can be all on private IPs behind the router using a single external IP.

Example.

Device One set to port xxx

Device two set to port yyy

Port XXX should be forward in the Router toward the IP of the Device One.

Port YYY should be forward in the Router toward the IP of the Device Two.

Whe you access from the outside you use (example) 123.435.678.999:XXX for the first Device, and 123.435.678.999:YYY for the second.

If it were me, I would invest in a proper firewall that allows multiple IP addresses for the WAN connection. What you describe here is very hokey, and I don't even believe it would work.

Look into a Cisco ASA5505.
