I used Setpoint 3.1 originally when I first installed Vista, it worked but Windows Defender blocked 'Logitech Setpoint Event Manage (UNICODE)' on startup. No big deal, I just manually started it.

So Setpoint 3.3 for Vista came out. I uninstalled 3.1, rebooted and installed 3.3. I'm still getting the same frakin blocking from Windows Defender?!?! How do you allow a program to run at start up that hasn't been classified by Windows Defender yet? Nothing in the Windows Defender Software Explorer allows user control over this.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
 
You could drop Microsoft a line: windefend -at- submit.microsoft.com Tell them you have a false positive and where to get the file from Logitech's site.

Interesting... Did you ever have 3.1 installed or did you do a fresh install with 3.3?

I'm thinking Window's Defender makes a rule, and regardless of uninstallation keeps that rule. So if a new release comes out it's still stuck with the old rule.
 
Update..

This is getting weird. First off I disable all the Windows Defender real time options... still blocked. I disable Windows Defender... still blocked! Now it brings up the system configuration utility when I click 'Show or remove blocked startup programs'. I guess this is rooted in the UAC, which seems to be flawed as it doesn't remember my setting it as a trusted program. Interestingly enough the UAC calls Messenger unclassified... yet it runs anyway.

I suppose the spyware authors just need to call themselves 'Microsoft' in the publisher field and they have a free lunch. This is amazing. I can't believe they're opening Window's Defender for this blocked program when it's clearly something else that's blocking it at startup.
 
I had 3.1 installed and then switched to 3.3 when it came out. Had no issues and the annoying pop ups went away for the UNICODE at startup. I got one for my keyboard and one for my mouse, so I had to click cancel twice for several weeks. Very annoying. Sorry to hear you're having trouble. I just switched back to XP and couldn't be happier right now.
