The Cuppies are 3dfx investors from the Motely Fool message board. There's a long history to the name, but investing in 3dfx has been like being kicked in the .... I asked a couple to help me out in my race to 1,000. I thought that I'd get a couple of computers added. I did, but one of them has access to major Heavy Metal . I think I have somewhere between 30-50 HP RISC processors behind me right now. A big chucnk of them are just doing a burn-in (over this weekend), but I'm enjoying the ride!

Michael

ps - I've passed on "thegamebox" address to the Cuppies and told them that they're part of the team.

Great progess there, and a most creative way to recruit. I have been trying for awhile to get the network guys to run SETI on our HP RISC servers, but no dice so far:(:frown:

The Heavy Metal Cuppie told me that he'll toss in a couple of more big machines over the weekend and that I should jump to the top 20's of the team. :Q

If you want to learn more about the "Cuppies" go here:

Michael: Great job guy! Smart of you to ask and very cool of them to do it for you. Maybe now that they're part of the team they'll consider leaving the client running? Either way, you figured out a very creative way to reach 1000 WU's and helped the team in the process!

Way to go!! :)

From my "super" Cuppie friend:

"FYI: I've got 4 16 CPU 2500's standing by plus 2 more 16 CPU 2200's.
I'll probably fire them off this evening and let them run until early
Monday morning. That will easily more than double the run rate we've
been seeing this week. :) "

Maybe I should race Robor to 10,000 after all <grin>

And here is his guess on the output this weekend:

"Right now I have 160 work units being simultaneously processed on
11 servers. Average time per work unit should be right around 6 hours.
That should work out to around 1600 work units completed before I have
to turn them off on Monday morning.

Some wise guy started some real work on one of the boxes, so I had to
stop my jobs, otherwise it would have been 176/1700 over the weekend."

That is 160 processors crunching away. Those aliens can't hide much longer!

I can't wait! 3000 WU's, here I come!

Just thought you guys might want to know. That's over $10M in computer
equipment I've got working on this right now. (Some is 1 to 2 years old,
so has depreciated some.)

Maybe over a long holiday sometime I'll try to get the client running on
as many boxes as I can (somewhere around 100 would be my best guess, totalling
close to 2000 processors.) It would be kind of neat to see what kind of burst
rate I could achieve. There could be issues with network bandwidth into the
site with that many work units being slung around. (I'd hate to get in the
way of the one handed web browsers on the campus. :)

HeavyMetal: All I can say is WELCOME TO THE TEAM!!!!. You can't imagine how good it is to have you with us. Michael and the rest of us are beyond happy to see you joined us. We're a small but extremely dedicated (lots of WU/member) bunch and we've been making a steady climb up the chart by recruiting and assimilating everything we can. You are *BY FAR* the biggest producer we have. I'm a longtime Anandtech member and I've been doing SETI since the start but I'll salute you as you blow past me and be happy to do it!

Three cheers for HeavyMetal!!!!

Rob

PS - Anyone else looking forward to the daily stats a little bit more? ;) Damn this is good!!!!!!!!

Hi HeavyMetal, Welecome to the TeAm!:):D:):D

I was amazed to see Michael zoom past me on our race to 1K. Usually when people add a new machine the results are barely noticable, but this is rather humbling! :frown::frown::frown:

But, with your help we have beaten the Swiss and Macs!!! :D  :D Just do me one favor and please don't help KB0ogt!

I bow to the almighty Michael & The Cuppies.:)

I know it looks to be short lived but the boost will really cut the time it takes us to catch OS/2 Warp and Team Nippon.:D Many thanks guys for the huge help you have given us. You all are family now.:)

HeavyMetal, thanks for taking such a big RISC on us. ;)

It seems the economists have it right: big RISCs produce big rewards! :D
