I have a request in the Perpiherals forum about a RAID drive..
Its this tread : RAID 1(mirror) and how to break it????

Since this it my SetiQueueStats server, and normally also soni.dk webserver this is something i knew would interrest someone here..
I know we have a lot of knowledgeable people here, and since this is my first RAID system, and the first problem with it, i hope someone could give a quick reply..

Its kind of urgent, since i leave on vacation tomorrow, so any speedy reply (with solutions 😀) would help 🙂

Hey Soni

Not a good thing to happen just before a holiday! 🙁

As far as i'm aware, RAID1 will work fine if one of the drives goes missing/dies, as this is what it's meant for! My guess (tho not 100% sure, will ask some one at work later) is that it will be ok without one of the drives, as when you put a new drive in it will rebuild the array (copy the data onto the new drive) so it should be ok 🙂

But as i said i'll get info from the man in the know when he gets back in later 🙂

My experience with RAID is limited to SCSI systems, so I don't know if my advice will help either, but from what I've seen, Confused is right.

with mirroring, you can pull one drive and operate independently if you would like, then when you get another drive to replace it, you can restart the mirror, and it'll sync over a certain period of time. You should be able to operate with either drive, independently. Sorry this happened, good luck

It should continue working. In fact, a buddy at another site (rleach2) had a RAID1 (mirror) go down last week. It was an IDE drive mirrored with NT4 Server. It did continue working. They replaced the drive and recreated the mirror.

Get a new drive, turn the machine off, replace the suspected drive, reboot, during post hit "ctl+f" and choose "rebuild array", that will take some time, when done it will reboot and it should be fine. 🙂
