hey all, well, on tuesday, i got a new mobo and cpu ( abit kt7a and a t-bird 1 ghz 266 fsb) ....

i plugged it all in.. and NADA! i took of my cpu fan and my cpu started to smoke, and then whenever i turned on my computer, it would shut it self off after 3 seconds.

after many hours of testing, i found i had a bad mobo, and that it burned my CPU.. good bye $$$
i reordered thoes two parts, and i am getting them later today

what i want to know is.. what are the steps i should take in setting it all up.. like, just test the mobo, then add the CPU , or put in all cards, HD and cdwriter and all, and then turn it on.. i would like to hear any suggestions, thanx in advance

You should be able to install the CPU w/heatsink memory and a vid card and get to the post screen. If you had a bad board then no reason to be shy second time around. Just make sure your heasink is on correctly and sits squarely on the CPU. Make sure you fan is plugged into the right header if it proprietary. (like KT7) After that load up your periferals and your OS you should be good to go. Good luck
