SETI WU times with W98 and 3.0 GUI

My times for the past few WU's have been much lower. From 8 hours to 5 hours on my c566->850 and from 14 hours to 10 hours on my daughter's c433.

The FAQ says that times have a much wider variation due to the extra checking that goes on. Am I just getting "faster" units?

I have only completed 2 WU's with the 3.0 GUI and they came out at 4:50 and 5:05, that's on a 700MHz Athlon classic. Before i was getting roughly 7-8 hours with version 2.4 CLI.

Yeah Michael, that's NOT what I'm seeing. I am at the cabin so I can't look at the info for the past 24 hours. Before I left the house I noted that the Celeron is taking longer and the PIII CU is faster. On my PIII-933, I had one WU finish at 100% complete in 3hr. 16min. But there is a broader range in WU completion time. It seems that the more Spikes and Pulses in a file the longer it takes to complete.

I made the distinction of the PIII CU(256k cache) as the PIII w/512k cache also seems slower, but I want a few days of data before I publish the results.

zzzz: If a WU has a lot of "noise" in it is will terminate early. Sometimes before 1% complete. This is mentioned in the S@H FAQ. If it happen a few times in a row then you might need to look at your system as the cause.

it varies by quite a bit.

example on 2 idential nodes (celeron 300a at 450)
it used to take be a little over 8 hours.

and just now one node finished a w/u in under 6.5 hours
and the other took 10.

same thing seems to happen with the pent 3 nodes.

these were under linux but i have seen it under win 98 as well
