Seti workunits

How is it that many of the guys sending in work units can do over 100 a day I have it running on 6 P-4 systems all day and best I have gotten is 35.

WHat type of hardware are these guys running FreeBSD Clusters?

thanks

john

No we just have it running on a lot of machines 🙂

Clusters really don't benefit you in this project unless you are sending a unit to each node and having them process it individually but then that really isn't a cluster 😉

Some of us are just a little whacky....I have 17 systems at home producing 132 WU's per day (yes, at home)...

Range from P4 3.2GHz 800FSB with 512Megs of Dual channel PC3200 down to PIII 550. 3 of the rigs are dual (TBird 1400, XP1800 and XP1900) systems.

😉

And some of those Crazee people (cough) have many systems that they administor! 😉

In addition to building crack racks and having quite a few PCs at home as well 😉

But remember every single WU is important for a couple of reasons: 1) You may be the one to locate ET 2) You may have the WU that puts up another place in the standings

My 27.87 GHz Hyperthreading Pentium Barton Centrino hybrid at home produces over 100 workunits a day.😉 I guess you can say out of his mind, since my SETI Queue settings is set at INSANE😛

Hey, I've got one of those too...almost forgot about it....but it produces 100.005 Wu's per day. I must have tweaked it just a tad better! 😉

Every WU counts. Every PC counts. Every TeAmmate...especially counts. We're all one big TeAm! 🙂

I have 90 PCs in my shops running 9-5 some 24-7 a dozen servers running 24-7.
Range 1 single duron 1000 a 50 2600XPs 2 dozen or so 2.8 HTs a couple Dual Xeon 2.8s running Gentoo. Slowest producer of the bunch. and a dual 2400MP. I am only producing 300 aday.

So your the network admin or owner? Did someone give permission for it or did you just install it on each one??

That doesn't sound right at all!! My AMD XP 2000+ (overclocked to 1.73 ghz) does 7WU a day solid!! A buddy that crunches for me has an XP 1600 that I overclocked to 1.53 ghz and he's doing 5-6 a day...

My 2000+ - 512mb pc 2100 DDR on a Biostar M7VIQ, and I use off board sound and video... (soundblaster live!value and an Nvidia G4 440 64mb on board)

Your rig should bury mine in daily production unless you are burning a lot of cycles on other things! Let me know if I can help!!

Just guessing, but Id think the GUI would be a little slower... Don't know though as Starfire whooped me of that quickly and I've never tried the GUI on this box.

When I joined them, I was running the GUI on a PII box - over three years with 144 WU's..

in 13 mos since, running the 3.03 and 3.08 I've jumped up to over 3600...(but I've added rigs too, all on the CLI)

My 2.4 P4 does 12-14 a day with hyperthreading. My 2700xp around 9 to 10 a day
I have 18 machines at home and we have 25 to 30 2400 XPs, 12 to 15 other machines ranging from 1800 xp to 2000 xp and a number of slower machines crunching at work. jmeadlock is in charge of anything computerwise there ( And a member of the Rebel Alliance ) and the GM is fully aware and we have permission to run seti on the machines
Not sure what all the other 5 members of the Rebel Alliance has but that is how we put up the numbers that we do.

Thanks Freewolf, and it's not that I wouldn't love to see the stomp! But, I believe in the project, and that XP should be kickin'!!

Nice fleet, BTW!

I've got 23 pcs in my fleet, from Celeron 1.5GHz, P4 1.5GHz to P4 2.8GHz doing +-115 to 120 wu a day, my Athlon XP 2600+ does 10 a day. I changed all of them over from the 3.08 client to the 3.03 client after testing a wu on my 2600+ ( 3.08- 3h 32min, 3.03- 2h 29min). I used to do about 15 to 20 wu a day, but moved it up a bit when I heard about SETI1 ending...

I got a 2500+ @ 2.2ghz(3200+ speed) and that does about 9/day using the CLI.
It would do a couple more per day, but as its my main machine, it gets used alot 🙂

Both my XP 1800's@ stock speed put out 6-7 a day.

Well, i just added a dual MP 1800 cruncher to my SETI effort, which includes 2 separate XP 1800 rigs & i'm getting almost 24 a day from that.

PorBleemo & jeepdude,
Which SETI clients(GUI or CLI) are you running & which version?
Are you using any screensaver?
Check the task manager to see what else is taking up CPU cycles when you think there should be nothing else running except SETI. SETI should be getting around 97-99%.

Isn't that a bit few? I mean, my XP 2000+ manages almost 6 a day if I don't use it otherwise ... Is that your main machine also used fo games, coding, ... ?

Yeah, my XP2000+ non OCd gets 6 WUs a day, and that's with the Linux CLI, which is slower than the Win CLI.

I only have 4 PCs running SETI at this point, 3 at home and 1 at work. Xp2000+, 1ghz TBird, and a dual PII450. The one at work, P4 1.6Ghz is usually 24/7, but sometimes I have to shut it down for others to use.

The best I ever did was ~65 WUs a day, and that was with a work fleet, including several tualitin core lappys and a monster IBM dual XEON server. 🙂

I have my work PC, P4 2.53ghz on 24/7 producing around 9 WU's and my home PC, XP2500+ on 12/7 producing around 4 WU's
