SETI - CLASSIC

How to run SETI-Classic and Join TeAm AnandTech

How To configure your SetiDriver for SETI - CLASSIC to use a TeAm SetiQueue.

Once you have your SetiDriver setup and working properly it is recommended that you use one of the TeAm's SetiQueues.
This will insure you have WUs to crunch when the Seti Server is down.

SETI - BOINC*

1a. If you are listed on the Seti-Classic Roster prior to 14 May 2004, use the following link to get Seti-BOINC running on your computer(s):

Activate your transferred Seti-Classic account

1b. If you are a new SETI participant, use the following link to get Seti-BOINC running on your computer(s):

Create an Account

2. You will receive a confirming email giving you the password you will need to complete the Seti-BOINC installation.

2a. Make sure you're using an active email-address, you must also activate the account before starting to crunch. Just paste the account-key from the email and hit "activate account".

3. Preferences: If you're already running another BOINC-project besides seti@home, choose the 2nd link. Otherwise, the 1st link "This is my first BOINC project". For most the default settings are good enough. After you "ok" the preferences, you're automagically transported to the... download page:

Download the BOINC software program suitable for your system <-- Here's the link in case you ever need it. ;)

4. Open the program and let it proceed automatically to install BOINC on your computer.

5. After the program has installed you should get a screen asking you which program you wish to attach to the BOINC program. The installation package is a little weak at this point and could lead to confusion on what to enter. Eventually there will be more and more PROJECTS that you can "attach" to your BOINC engine.

5a. If you are using a PROXY, navigate the BOINC interface to "Settings/Proxy Server ..." and follow the directions there. Make sure you do this before proceeding any further because otherwise you won't be able to connect to complete the installation.

5b. Since this instruction set is for the SETI project, enter the following for the projects web address:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu <---Copy and paste this url ... it shows up as a link in our forum but you should only copy and paste it in the appropriate spot.

5c. Obviously, you would enter the BOINC PASSWORD referred to in step #2.

6. Things should go automatically from this point on. If you are running a hyper-threaded CPU or a multiple CPU system you should check to see if in the WORK area (see the tab at the top of the BOINC INTERFACE) if there is a Work Unit being processed for each of your processors (2 for hyper-threaded CPU systems).

6a. The 1st connection will use client-defaults, so if you've changed the cache-settings you will be, in effect, immediately asking for more Work Units. You may not get enough Work Units for multi-cpus during this initial download. Just let the client run for about 10 minutes when it will automatically ask for more Work Units.

7. If everything is working as it should, you'll probably (on NT4 & later) want to let BOINC run as service. To do this, exit the BOINC-gui and open up a cmd-prompt. Navigate to the boinc-directory. You could use the following string to get there more quickly:
cd "c:\program files\boinc" (if you installed BOINC in the default location)

Once there type in: boinc_cli.exe -install and hit the ENTER key.

If you're running XP, you probably also need to go into service-control and change the account BOINC to run as "localsystem".
Now start the service, or reboot.

v3.20 fixed the service-bug.

8. The last and most important step for our New TeAm Mates is to now Join TeAm AnandTech

*This is a work in progress and will be updated, amended, corrected at time goes by. If you think there are things to be corrected, added, or deleted please post right in this thread and I'll attempt to fix them ASAP. :)

We need some programmers on our TeAm to come up with our own version. Any takers? :)

Hello Bryan,

There is something strange going on.

1. Your user stats page from Berkeley is working just fine. Bryan Hammons (Pop-Pop)

2. Your comparative Stats Machine on the Wiz/Smoke Stats Page is not working. It is reporting, "Warning: Name not found." This is most weird ... I do not understand why we are getting that error message.

If you look at the same stats page, TeAm Stats without Comparison, you show up just fine.

3. Your stats show that you are definitely producing WUs and have returned some WUs even this morning.

Question: When did you first notice this problem on the STATS MACHINE?

Thank You for the Quick response. Must have been a clitch with berkley its working again. Since day one my states link would come up with name not found but it would bring up the whole team and then I would scroll through and find my yellow highlighted name. Now it wont bring up even the team stats. Just checked it and it says warning name not found like it did from day one so at least I can live with that. I havent been on here for awhile but I tried to do a new topic (OT) and wouldn't let me. Then I tried to do a reply that didn't work then after I posted I tried to edit it my post and that wouldn't work. I guess I better get on here more often and find out whats changed. thanks for the help and welcome to the team to all the new members.

Weird. It does hi-lite his name in yellow but you have to scroll down to see it instead of being able to click on the link at the top of the page.

His stats are working OK over on the SETIatwork site.
